MESICK -- The Mesick Varsity Girls Softball team held a "Pink Out" game today against Kalkaska as part of the "Coaches vs Cancer" program - which raises awareness for breast cancer.

The entire team and fans had matching pink t-shirts. The girls all wore matching hair ribbons and were selling pink extension hair pieces. The team got out and decorated the entire dugout area, fence, and bleechers for the game today.

The girls chose to raise money for breast cancer because every girl on the team had been effected in some way by it, and knew the community most likely had too.

The MHS varsity pitching coach said, "We're trying to teach the girls that organizations are bigger than just themselves and that helping others is the goal of a quality team and a quality organization. They've worked themselves really hard to try and raise money for this particular cause and they understand the importance of it."

The ladies cheered very loudly for every teammate when she was up at bat, and had multiple chants to keep each other going.

So far, through bake sales and other fundraisers, the ladies have raised over three thousand dollars! If you would like to help, you can submit donations to MHS - labeled "Pink Out."
