A status hearing on the sale of Cheboygan Memorial Hospital to McLaren Health Care is scheduled for tomorrow in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Bay City.

Meanwhile McLaren is offering no information on a Wednesday conference call between interested parties.

Cheboygan Memorial closed its doors on April 3rd.

CMH officials say the problem was with recertification requirements and licensure of its emergency services and outpatient surgery area.

The Center for Medicare Services (CMS) was unwilling to grant a waiver to allow McLaren Health Care to immediately operate those areas as planned without additional surveys being completed.

The closure came just days after a a judge with the Eastern District of Michigan U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved the sale of Cheboygan to McLaren.

In a statement today, State Representative Frank Foster said, " I implore CMS and the Justice Department to re-evaluate their approach to these discussions and prioritize the needs of our local community, and cut through the federal bureaucracy that has stonewalled an otherwise ready-to-go solution for our residents."

More than 300 people were left without a job and patients had to be transferred to other area hospitals when CMH shutdown.

Some of the CMH physicians are now associated with McLaren Health and several clinics opened this week in Cheboygan.
