CHEBOYGAN (AP) -- Cheboygan County residents will soon have new healthcare option following the closure of the areas only hospital.

Health clinics previously affiliated with Cheboygan Memorial Hospital could reopen as early as Monday.

The clinics could open under the management of Flint-based McLaren Health Care Corp. McLaren is working to hire former Cheboygan Memorial Hospital doctors and staff for the clinics.

Cheboygan Memorial Hospital closed its facility, including clinics and its Emergency Room, to patients on Tuesday, after a sale to McLaren fell through at the last minute. Officials cited issues with the federal government involving licensing and certification for Medicare and Medicaid services.

Cheboygan Memorial on March 1 announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after losing more than $7 million last year.

Currently, all EMS and local ambulances are providing services through 911.  Emergency patients are being diverted to the most appropriate hospital in the region.  Those who need urgent prescription refill should contact their pharmacy.  The pharmacy will fax a request to your physician and the physician will write an order to your pharmacist.

All medical records have been secured at the hospital.  A process for retrieving a copy of your records is being developed.  As soon as the process has been identified, hospital officials will get the details to the public. 

More than 300 CMH employees were left without a job when the closure was announced this week.
