LEELANAU COUNTY -- A new report from county health rankings shows Leelanau County is the healthiest in the state. Emmet County came in at number 7 and Grand Traverse County was ranked at number 10.
The report is based on the length of life and quality of life. Researchers look at a variety of health factors including environmental quality, social factors, physical activity, access to health care, tobacco use and dietary behaviors.
Sarah Shimek from the Grand Traverse County Health Department says, "One of the areas that Grand Traverse County was lacking in was the percent of adults who are considered obese and access to physical activity, so I think you personally can improve the health of the county, by being more active and monitoring your weight."
All the rankings are conducted by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
