House destroyed in overnight fire

ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP, MI -- Update Wednesday 3:30pm: A Mesick family is without a home, after an overnight blaze ripped through their house in Wexford County. The family of four was out Wednesday morning, assessing the damage and trying to salvage any items they could.

Authorities say the blaze started at around 11:30pm Tuesday night and took them several hours to put out all the hotspots.

The family tells 7&4 News they were on vacation when they got the call that their house was on fire. It appears to be a total loss and the cause is still under investigation.

A Wexford County home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.

State Troopers from the Cadillac Post were on patrol in Antioch Township when they spotted the fire.

Troopers said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived at the scene.

While efforts were being made to determine if anyone was inside the residence, the homeowners arrived on scene and said the home was unoccupied.

Mesick Rescue was called to the scene as a precaution.

Police said it is believed the home will be a total loss.
