CHARLEVOIX CO., MI -- Deputies say the "jaws of life" had to be used to get two people out of a car in Charlevoix County.

Around 4:30 Monday evening, the sheriff's department says Arnold Burkhart lost consciousness while driving.

He went off the road and struck a tree near US-31 and Nine Mile Point Drive.

Arnold and his wife Kay had to be extracted from the car and Kay was seriously injured.

Their two daughters were also injured.
