GAYLORD/PETOSKEY, MI -- A local Gaylord girl and Petoskey boy are the state's best "Punt, Pass, and Kicker's" in the state, a title claimed when the Detroit Lions played the Minnesota Vikings on December 11th.

10 year-old Savannah Gapinski from Gaylord is the state champion for the 10-and-11 year old girls' division for punting, kicking, and throwing a football the furthest.

She was selected to take part in the Ford Field state championship in Detroit after winning the sectionals in Newberry last month.

Savannah says it was an awesome experience!

"They kept you after, and they brought you out on the field and showed you on the jumbo screen!  It was pretty cool.  Everybody has been congratulating me, all at school and stuff," said Savannah.

She won a football and a golden tee for finishing first.

The four best in the nation will face off during halftime of a football playoff game this year, Savannah scored the 20th best score by finishing with a combined score of about 191 feet.

She says next year, her goal is to be the national champion.

The state champion for the boys 10-and-11 year old division is 11 year-old Joel Wilson from Petoskey.

Wilson was first in his class, also throwing, kicking, and punting the furthest on December 11th.

He finished with the nation's ninth best score in his division.
