WEIDMAN/ISABELLA CO. -- A mother dead, a husband charged with open murder, and a young boy is without his parents tonight.
It all began with an Amber Alert Sunday afternoon in Isabella County.
Investigators and neighbors now are looking to piece together what happened.
Monday morning police tape surrounded the Fish home in Weidman in Isabella County. The home was the center of an investigation that started Sunday afternoon with a missing mom and an Amber Alert for her son Brody.
"When we started interviewing witnesses, I should say family members, friends, it started looking like there may be something going on that wasn't quite right," said Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski.
Four year-old Brody Fish who was found safe with his father Jason in Flint hours later. Deputies immediately started to question Jason about his wife’s whereabouts.
“We were able to put together she probably wasn't going to be alive," said Mioduszewski
Investigators went inside the home and found Stephanie shot to death. A .22 caliber rifle was found with Jason and police believe it was the weapon that killed Stephanie and that she was possible killed as early as Friday night. The suspect, Jason Fish, charged with four felony counts, including open murder and firearm possession by a felon.
Right now, the young victim of this case, four year-old Brody, is staying with other family members. We talked to some neighbors today, and they said their hearts go out to that four year old, and at the end, they just hope he didn't see anything.
"He knows mom and dad, and we hope he doesn't get overcome by it, our concerns are basically with him," said Ed Bates.
Ed and Darlene Bates live a couple doors down from the Fish's. They told me everybody gets along in the small community. They said Stephanie was a loving mother, Jason had a temper but was overall what they thought a decent guy, and this comes as a blow.
“We thought they were a close couple, and we're just totally shocked something like this happened," said the Bates.
The investigation continues tonight into exactly what happened and why.
An autopsy on Stephanie Fish’s body will happen either later Monday or Tuesday.
