TRAVERSE CITY -- The Old Mission Peninsula School celebrated Native American Cultural Enrichment Day by having members of the Grand Traverse Band (GTB) of Ottawa and Chippewa Indian Cultural Department visit.

The students had the opportunity to participate in activites and visit displays throughout the school day. Items such as handmade drums, decorated turtle shells, animal fur, and woven baskets, to name a few, were on display for students to see and try. Hank Bailey, dressed in full best dress, taught the students how to dance and also how to say a few words in the Native American culture.

Bailey, who is a Fish and Wildlife Technician for the Grand Traverse Natural Resources Department, said he very much enjoys the school visits and sees it as a great opportunity to educate and connect with the kids-in an exciting and fun way!
