KALKASKA CO., MI -- A local community looking at major cuts to balance the budget.
In Kalkaska County, an operations review from a downstate firm looked at all county departments and gave recommendations for "minimal affects" to help with the projected shortfall.
Two of the departments that the report specifically target; the prosecutor and sheriff offices.
It claims several of the operations are "optional."
The sheriff says that's hardly the case.
"If they make more cuts, I'm probably going to lose my 24 hour services, my 24 hour uniform services. People that call in would not be available, there would be no officer available to assist them with their call," said Sheriff Dave Israel.
Earlier this year, he had to cut $250,000 which meant laying off five officers.
We talked to the prosecutor and the county controller and both believe there are inaccuracies in the report.
