BUCKLEY, MI -- Buckley Community Schools is asking voters to approve a tax hike on November 8.

The proposal is for an increased tax levy of 2.35 mills.

On average, that would increase taxes $22 a month for a property owner with a taxable value of $100,000.

According to the school’s website, “The millage will provide for upgrades to Buckley Community Schools. The main components of the project include a new classroom addition that will connect the Big Gym to the existing building and feature six new classrooms; provide a commons area in the new area where all students and community will enter; provide an auxiliary gymnasium for elementary, junior high, and high school practices and games as well as additional learning space for physical education; provide bleachers and a press box for the soccer and track complex; provide for additional buses for better student transportation and safety; provide for additional parking and better traffic flow for student safety.”

Buckley Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer said the improvements are needed to accommodate a growing student body.
