Fire Prevention Week events

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- Sunday marks the start of Fire Prevention Week across the state -- and many local fire departments are opening their doors to educate the public.

From October 9th to the 15th, five fire departments in the Grand Traverse area will offer a list of events that focus on ways to keep homes fire safe and how to prevent painful burns.

For 85 years fire departments have hosted Fire Prevention Week making it the longest running public health and safety observance on record.

Blair Township Fire Department -- 2121 County Road 633, Grawn: Truck Tours – Sat, October 15 - 11am-3pm

Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department:

Station 8 -- 6042 Acme Road: Truck Tours, Station Tours, Fire Extinguisher Training, Sat. October 8 – 11am-3pm

Station 11 -- 3000 Albany (East of Veterans Drive), Traverse City: Community BBQ, auto extrication, smoke trailer, obstacle course, bounce house, and much more! Sat, October 15 - 11am-3pm 

Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department:

Station/Battalion 2 -- 2266 E M-113, Kingsley: Truck tours and station tours. Sat, October 15 - 10am – 2pm

Station/Battalion 3 -- 8380 Old M-72, Williamsburg: Ladder truck demo, station tours, and truck tours. Sat, October 15 - 11am-3pm

Station/Battalion 4 -- 9394 10th Street, Interlochen: SPECIAL EVENT - Protect Your Family From Fire - Safety Day. Being held at Ric's Food Center, 2048 M-137, Interlochen Sat, October 15 – 10am-4pm

Peninsula Township Fire Department:

Station 1 - 14247 Center Road, Traverse City: Refreshments and give-aways!  Sat, October 15 - 11am-3pm

Traverse City Fire Department:

Station 1 -- 500 West Front Street, Traverse City: Free lunch, rides on the 1936 antique fire truck, smoke trailer, safety stations, home escape planning, demonstrations, and more!  Sat, October 15, 11am-3pm
