TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- Bow Hunting season starts on Saturday and this year hunters will be allowed to use bait.
DNR officials said that baiting will be allowed for the next three years.
After that time period, they will once again review the law.
"The Natural Resource Commission decided to allow baiting again starting October first...baiting is limited to two gallons at any one time spread out over a 10 square foot area. That is to minimize the nose to nose contact or exchange of body fluids between animals," said DNR Wildlife Technician Steve Griffith.
The baiting ban is still in effect for the six counties in the TB Zone, which are Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle.
If you see a hunter abusing their baiting site, you are encouraged to call the DNR's poaching hotline at 800-292-7800. Your call will remain anonymous.
