Budget recommends cleaning services to be privatized
TRAVERSE CITY -- Grand Traverse County Commissioners met for more than three hours Wednesday afternoon to continue talks on the 2012 budget.
The budget recommends that the county privitize the custodial staff to save an estimated $190,000 a year. Commissioners considered restoring the jobs and taking that measure off the budget before the final vote on October 19th.
Despite pleas from many community members who addressed commissioners, the motion to keep the 11 janitorial jobs was voted down. This means hiring an outside company to do the job is still a possibility.
