OLD MISSION PENINSULA -- Controversy continues to brew tonight over a church's plan to build a new place of worship.

St. Joseph Catholic Church on Old Mission Peninsula wants to build a larger facility down the street  and tonight they hoped to get the go ahead to start construction -- but not before hearing some heated concerns from neighbors.

A big crowd showed up at the Peninsula Township Hall Tuesday tonight , where hopes were high, up until the very end of the meeting that a decision would be made. However after hearing concerns from dozens of community members, township officials say they need more time.
