MACKINAC ISLAND, MI -- Air transportation to Mackinac Island will be grounded starting September 6th as construction begins on a $4.6-million project to replace the runway.

The "Runway Rehabilitation Project" will take about three months to complete.

it includes rebuilding the landing strip and moving it 65 feet to the east.

The FAA-funded project will give better visibility to pilots and improve runway lighting.
