PELLSTON, MI -- Emmet County leaders believe the Pellston Airport is the only airport in America with an authentic wigwam in it.

The wigwam is the main attraction at the Odawa Warriors' Journey Exhibit, which opened today at the airport.

On display, you won't only find a wigwam, but there are also kiosks that give a narrative of the history of the Odawas during the French and Indian War, and the displays illustrate the influence of Odawas in American History.

"This is an awesome story about how the history of Northern Michigan influenced the outcome of America and that the people here played a key role in some very historical events that helped shape this country," said Eric Hemenway, a historian with the Odawa Tribe.

Several of the artifacts have been loaned to the airport from Fort Necessity in Pennsylvania, home to the only museum for the French and Indian War.

The exhibit is a collaboration between the Odawas and Emmet County and will be open from 8am until 8pm everyday.
