TORCH LAKE, MI -- Authorities have identified a man who drowned over the weekend as a volunteer firefighter.

21 year-old Loren Hazen from Kalkaska County died while trying to help a friend who was struggling as they were swimming out to a sandbar on Torch Lake.

His friend was able to make it to shallow water.

Hazen was a volunteer for the Boardman Township Fire Department.
