LUDINGTON -- The man accused of kidnapping baby Kate Phillips 2-weeks ago was brought out of his jail cell and back to court.
Sean Phillips, the suspected kidnapper of 5-month-old baby Kate, made a brief court appearance in Ludington Wednesday afternoon.
7&4's Kate Fox was there and has more on what unfolded in the courtroom.
The hearing lasted only a few minutes before the judge agreed to push back the preliminary examination. This means baby Kate's family and friends will have to wait another 3 weeks before getting any kind of answers.
Handcuffed and wearing a bullet-proof-vest, the suspected kidnapper Sean Phillips made his way into the courtroom. All was silent as his defense attorney asked Judge Peter Wadel to reschedule the preliminary hearing -- claiming they did not have enough time to review the police records.
The Judge determined this was good cause to reschedule the examination to August 3rd at 11:15am, a move that doesn't come as a shock to the prosecutor.
Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola says, "We received the reports on this case just last night and it was not a surprise that they needed additional time to prepare for it. It has been a very intensive case in the investigation part."
Baby Kate’s family was also in the courtroom. They were hoping for answers or some kind of information as to her whereabouts. The decision to push things back comes as yet another let down. The family will have to wait until August 3rd -- a day Kate's Grandma says can't come soon enough.
Baby Kate’s Grandmother April Lange says, "I’m hoping that maybe they cut him a decent deal and when he gets out he'll go pick up Kate, wherever she's at, that's my hope.”
Sean Phillips is facing charges of Kidnapping-Child Enticement. It’s a felony that's punishable by up to life in prison.
