CLARE -- A group of young cadets are getting some in-depth police training in Clare County.

It’s the 5th annual Youth Police Academy put on by the Clare Police Department at the local High School.

Over the next two weeks a group of kids, ages 10 to 14, will get the opportunity to learn the duties of law enforcement.

This includes physical training, K-9 procedures, crime scene investigation, and first aid.

Organizers say it's a great feeling to see the youngster’s enthusiasm and passion for learning.

Clare Police Department Sgt. Richard Ward says, "Anytime you can express to a kid your joy in your profession and they pick up any of that and they want to carry on in their own lives, it's rewarding, you’re doing something they see as a positive influence."

Kids also get the chance to learn about patrol procedures and gun safety.

The eager group of cadets finishes up classes next Thursday and celebrates with a graduation ceremony.
