MANISTEE COUNTY, MI -- A woman is under investigation after a dog was found dead inside her locked vehicle.
Tribal Police were called to Little River Casino Sunday afternoon.
Investigators said a person had reported that a dog was whimpering inside a locked vehicle in the casino parking lot. Officers located the owner in the casino and brought her out to the car. Inside, police found a dog they say died from heat exposure and dehydration. Another English bulldog was found clinging to life. That dog was rescued and is recovering. The dog was turned over to the Manistee County Sheriff's Office which is in charge of Animal Control.
The woman who owns the dogs is being investigated. Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Public Director Glenn Zaring said police are not releasing her name at this time. It is also not clear if she will be charged.
Zaring said it was approximately 90 degrees outside when the dogs were found inside the vehicle. Witnesses said no windows were open.
