BEULAH, MI -- In this week's Made with Michigan Hands, we visit one local restaurant that's been in business for close to a century!
Owner Andy Case said, "Well, it was established in 1922 as a roadside pie stand as a means to distribute fresh cherries and cherry pie. People wonder why and ask how we sell so many cherry pies and I think it's more so than just the taste of the pie, it's good cherry pie, but it's almost we're selling memories now, memories and traditions."
It's so popular in fact, that in the middle of our interview, a couple couldn't wait another minute to get their cherry pie fix! Case believes that it's the simplicity to the recipe that makes it so good.
Case said, "it's the original recipe since 1922... we use with all local cherries; Benzie and Manistee and Leelanau county cherries... and we just take the time to make it right... and we make it fresh daily."
And just how many cherry pies do their 50 employees make and serve every day?
Case said, "In the summertime we average for about Father's Day weekend through Labor Day weekend about 300 pies a day and on the weekends we'd like to sell, it'd be nice if we'd do 500 on a day would be a good day for us."
While you can ship some of their products anywhere in the nation; don't expect to send any pies as presents...
Case said, "We ship our jams and jellies and dried cherries and other souvenir type products but our biggest question is, we get on a daily basis and also through email is: 'do you ship our cherry pies?' and unfortunately, we do not."
So, if you want the real deal, you'll have to head to Beulah.. or, Click here to visit their website.
