Car chase goes up ski hill

THOMPSONVILLE -- A police chase through two counties ended when the suspects drove up a popular ski hill at Crystal Mountain Resort.
The chase began in Grand Traverse County around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when deputies tried to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation. Benzie County deputies joined the pursuit when it crossed the county line on Karlin Road a short time later.
Deputies followed the suspects vehicle to Crystal Mountain when the driver drove up one of the ski hills at the resort. The car stopped when it hit the "Alpine Slide". The driver and three passengers including a 25 year old Grawn woman and two young children then took off on foot.
K-9 units from Traverse City Police Department and Benzie County were called in to help track the suspects. The woman and her children were found near M-115 by Benzie K-9 "Ena". The woman was arrested at the scene. The two young kids were handed over to family members.
The driver of the car has not been located at this time. The suspect is believed to be Paul William Nix. His whereabouts are unknown and he may be in possession of a firearm.
Nix is described as a 38 year black male. Nix is believed to be approximately 5'6" tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds.
