GAYLORD, MI -- A California talk-show host is creating a stir with his bold prediction that the world will end this weekend.

There’s a lot of money being spent spreading the message, but how local clergies aren't buying into it.

It’s an eye-popper -- a billboard warning that Judgment Day is two days away.  2,000 billboards like this one at a cost of between $2,000 and $10,000 each are posted across the country stamped with a world-altering guarantee.

"The end of the world is almost here.  Holy God will bring Judgment Day on May 21st, 2011," said Harold Camping, the talk show host and president of Family Radio. (CORRECTION MADE)

Camping claims he's found proof in the Bible that pinpoints Saturday as being exactly 7,000 years after the world was destroyed by water back in Noah’s Day.

"The Bible gives us the correct and accurate information about that day," claims Camping.

"Trying to read the Bible like a science book or try to predict certain dates is not the intent," explained Father Don Geyman of the Diocese of Gaylord.

"The bottom line is we have faith in the Word of God that no man knows the date or the hour," said Dr. Robert Perrotti of Grace Baptist College in Gaylord.

But religious leaders say they believe there will be a Day of Judgment, but to stamp it May 21st is nothing but a guess.

“But of that day and hour, knowith no man, no, not the Angels of Heaven, but my Father only," read Dr. Perrotti, as he says the Bible shows there isn’t a way to determine when Judgment Day will occur.

"There have been many people over the years that have tried to predict these things, they've picked dates, raised a lot of concern, and then we see that it doesn't happen," said Father Don Geyman.

This isn't the first Judgment Day prediction by Camping either.  Back in 1994, he predicted the world would end.

"Yeah I think this is a bunch of hoopla and he's out for his own betterment probably," said Cheboygan resident John Klingler.

"I think it's something for some folks to get excited about, but this too shall pass," laughed Bonnie Randolph.

"Saturday, I’m going to wake up, eat some bacon and eggs, go fishing all day.  Sunday, I’m going to wake up, go to work, and have a good day, laughed Derek Axford of Gaylord.

Nobody I talked to believes Saturday will be the end-all, but places like Grace Baptist Church are using the publicity as a reminder.  On Sunday, the Pastor will deliver a message about Judgment Day to remind folks what it means.

Some religious groups say the clock is ticking to the end of the world ... and quickly.  They say Judgment Day will take place Saturday, May 21.

Members of the religious group "Family Radio" are travelling around the world to warn people that the end of the world is nearing.

The prediction comes from Family Radio President Harold Camp, who came up with the date through a series of mathematical calculations based on the biblical story of the great flood.

"I mean, what do we have to gain for sowing fear, that's not going to come true," explained Joel Abalos of Family Radio. "I mean we left our jobs, we've sold everything because we are a hundred percent, because you see, because May 21, 2011 is not a prediction, it is as a declaration from the word of god."

According to the "declaration," a massive earthquake will hit the world at sunset for 24 hours, and only those who believe in the prophecy will be spared from death.

This is actually Camping's third prediction for the end of days, he was incorrect the last two times.

The group has purchased billboard space around the world - including here in northern Michigan - warning people to prepare.  Two billboards can be found in the Traverse City Area.  One is on Cass Road near S. Airport, the other is on U.S. 31 near the State Park.

There are also predictions according to the Mayan calendar that the end of the world will take place on December 21, 2012.
