GAYLORD, MI -- As the south fights floods and cleans up after that deadly series of tornados, the financial toll of the storms is making its way north.
Local lumber yards say you can expect the price of lumber to be on the rise in the next couple of months.
Right now, the price of lumber is down, but as the demand goes up as the south rebuilds, the supply will diminish, causing prices to increase.
Scott Sanders of Preston Feather says right now is the time to buy.
"Some of the natural devastation like that before, we've seen increases, it could range anywhere from 10 percent to 50 percent, especially on your panel products, your plywood products, you generally see the increase on that first," said Sanders.
"They might be impacted more because they are national carriers, and you know, I mean, they're assuming some of that risk," said Bob McNamara of McNamara Insurance.
Mcnamara says the price of insurance could also increase as the damage trickles down to us here in Northern Michigan, especially if you have a national carrier.
