BUCKLEY -- A Northern Michigan community is remembering a teen girl who was killed in a car crash Friday morning driving home from spring break.

Buckley Schools Superintendent, Rick Heitmeyer says, "It's a phone call you never want to get, not as a parent, not as a superintendent. It's shocking and you don't know what to say."

17-year old Haley Baldinger, was a senior at Buckley High School. Her tragic death is devastating to the small community.

Heitmeyer says, "Haley was a great kid. She was a leader in the school, she was in National Honor Society, yearbook, and she was a superstar at volleyball, basketball, and track."

Just months from graduation, her friends say she had big plans for college, but hadn't decided on which one to attend yet. Scholarship offers for track were starting to roll in, but it was her basketball performance in this year's district final that school leaders will always remember.

Heitmeyer says "She willed that team to victory, it was great to see. She was a leader, somebody the team looked up to. That was cool."

While it's tough to understand why she's gone, her friends say she'll never be forgotten.

Makenna Clous, a freshman at Buckley High School says, "Haley was a lot of fun, I loved hanging around her. She loved to smile and laugh. She will be greatly missed by everybody."
