TRAVERSE CITY -- One Traverse City couple is building family traditions one mix at a time. 7&4's Kate Fox introduces us to the unique wholesome products of Creekside Grains.

Owner of Creekside Grains says, "There's nothing better than getting up in the morning and walking 20 feet to work."

Cole says he loves crossing the bridge from his house to his creek side kitchen and using the sounds of the flowing creek as inspiration.

Cole and his wife Loretta run northern Michigan Miss America Preliminary Pageants and that's what started everything three years ago.

He explains, "We needed a fundraiser for the Miss America preliminaries so we took a recipe for buttermilk pancakes that I used to make my daughter-- when she was little and we came up with princess pancakes the breakfast of title holders, don't miss America’s breakfast.  They sold so well that I said to Loretta, there's a business here."

There sure was and they call it Creekside Grains. From traditional buttermilk pancakes to root beer cookies they make it all.  Cakes, cookies, brownies, scones, and muffins available in flavors no one else has.

They also do breads and biscuits.

Almost all of Creekside Grains mixes are all natural and the best part is the directions are right on the back.

He says, "We do all the hard work and our clients take full culinary advantage of us and take all the credit for making what we manufacture nothing makes me happier than to hear someone is a hero because they made one of our products for desert."

Cole aims to use all Michigan ingredients. He says they use, "Grains, corn flour, and of course we use all Michigan sugar."

They also use Black Star wines and cherries.

You can find Creekside Grain mixes in the following stores: Burritt’s Market, Fieldstone Deli, Chocolate Den, and Benjamin Twiggs.
