PETOSKEY, MI -- This weekend, you'll literally have a chance to test the waters in Petoskey.
The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council research coordinator is coordinating a hike this Saturday to visit the newly renovated Bear River waterfront in Downtown Petoskey.
The annual adventure will lead the participants to wade into Bear River.
They’ll collect samples and test to see if there has been an environmental impact from the summer's new construction.
"Determine whether there have been any impacts on the construction that has gone on there in that valley on both of the edges of the river and the channel itself," said Monitoring and Research Coordinator Kevin Cronk.
The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council does this every year to get people involved with lakes and streams in Northern Michigan and to help develop stewardship with the waters.
The hike begins this Saturday at ten.
