Casino glitch cancels out jackpot winner

TRAVERSE CITY -- When a Northern Michigan man put money into a slot machine at Turtle Creek Casino and heard the jackpot sirens go off, he couldn't believe it, $53,000. Little did he know, he wouldn't see a dime of it.

Lynda Freundl witnessed the entire event.

She says "Three security guards standing around on phones around the machine and bells are going off. We were like oh my god! I can't believe he won!" He was making plans like I think i'm going to pay off my house."

But Casino officials say something didn't look right.

Turtle Creek Casino General Manager, Richard Bailey says, "When we approached the machine we noticed there was a unique situation."

While $53,000 was lit up on the top of the slot machine, the payline didn't show a jackpot.

Bailey says, "We can see there is no winning combination or any winning symbols on the screen or payline."

What should have been there are three dollar signs in a row. Casino officials say an independent group verified the investigation and the guest went home empty handed.

Since the incident occurred, Turtle Creek Casino says they pulled the slot machine and will not be offering that game in the future. It is the first time that has ever happened at the casino.

So what do you think. Should the casino pay the man anyways for the glitch or do you think they did the right thing since it was a mechanical error?
