SAULT STE. MARIE, MI -- The I-500 Snowmobile Race in Sault Ste. Marie does bring some unwanted business to town as well.
The emergency room gears up for the accident victims who need medical attention.
With the I-500 being a part of the community for 43 years, the hospital has learned it's beneficial to bring on extra staff.
This weekend, they'll have extra staff in the emergency room, as well as an additional surgical crew on call.
"We want to expect the best but prepare for the worst. We want to make sure we're ready as a whole, vice presidents get involved, lab looks at supplies of blood, the Operating Room is ready, radiology is ready with additional staff on so we've prepared for additional needs," said Pat Hirt of War Memorial Hospital.
The hospital says it can have years where the emergency room is full of cases, and years where it's pretty quiet.
As always, the hospital says it's well-prepared and ready for the race.
