INDIAN RIVER, MI -- Inland Lakes Schools say they've found a way to increase learning opportunities, even with a less than ideal budget.

The schools moved to a trimester, which is two 75-day semesters, followed by a 30-day sprint course.

The two semesters will be like a regular high school, but the sprint course semester will give kids unique learning opportunities.

"I think it's the best of both worlds.  I mean, there's a bunch of different schedules out there, and I think this one is the best fit," said Inland Lakes Secondary School Principal Don Killingbeck.

"Just by changing a few assumptions we have about schools, we can offer a tremendous amount of things for kids when other schools really don't have those options," said English teacher Frank Holes.

Courses that will be offered include Girls Only - Shop, World History and Film, and Greek Mythology, among other interests.

Students who may be a little behind academically can use this sprint course semester to catch up.
