The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College has been awarded a grant of $10,000 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The grant was the maximum the museum could apply for in the application process.

The grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of nearly 173 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2010 funding. The funds awarded go toward support of the museum’s exhibition and concert programming through Sept of 2011.

“Organizations receiving a MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars,” says Gene Jenneman, Museum Director, “Matching support comes from our donors to our annual fund campaign and major in kind contributions from thousands of volunteer hours from members of the community and businesses like the Cambria Suites, Days Inn and Tamarack Lodge who house performers and visiting artists, and TV 7&4 and TV 29&8 that offer significant donated media support for events at the museum among many other supporters throughout the year. Further, to be successful in competing for these grant dollars the museum must demonstrate strong community support as demonstrated by matching fund dollars and provide high quality programming to its audiences.”

The Dennos Museum Center receives on average 60,000 visits a year by people accessing our programming or that of other organizations utilizing the facility to provide programming for the community.

The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of instate and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors or residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences. A complete list of grant awards around the state is available by contacting MCACA at (517) 241-4011, or by visiting the MCACA website at www.themedc.org/arts.

The Dennos Museum Center is open Monday to Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursday until 8 PM and Sundays 1-5 PM. Admission is $6.00 adults, $4.00 for children and free to museum members.
