Depot property development offers roll in
TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City officials have two offers from groups wanting to buy the depot property.
The first offer comes from Habitat for Humanity and HomeStretch. They are proposing to build 28 single family homes. Ten would be affordable housing units built by Habitat for Humanity, another ten would be affordable housing units built by HomeStretch, and the last eight would be built by a private builder.
Pam Doty-Nation, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity says, "That would create a nice mix of various income levels and backgrounds to give that neighborhood feel."
A green building consultant has volunteered to make the homes near net zero. That means they'll use little to no energy. The organizations offered the city $280,000 for the two and a half acre property.
The second offer is from MAVCON, a construction and contracting company based in Kalamazoo. The business hasn't given the city a purchase price yet.
MAVCON is proposing to build 75 low income apartments in a three story building. City leaders plan to look over both offers this month.
