GAYLORD, MI -- In today’s day and age, it's tough to remember to pay your bills, let alone set up a doctor's appointment or refill a prescription.

But all that just got easier because of a new internet site launched by Otsego Memorial Hospital.

"It’s as easy as using e-mail," explained Howard Grosser, Otsego Memorial Hospital’s Software Systems Educator.

Otsego Memorial Hospital Medical Group thinks they have found the answer to giving your busy, hectic life a break, at least when it comes down to scheduling doctor's appointments or refilling your pesky prescriptions.

"This is just an ideal way to do that, your convenience," said Barbara Miller, OMH Director of Operations.

The medical group has launched the new "Patient Portal," and all you need to do is sign up and have a computer with an internet connection.

Have you ever been sitting around late at night thinking to yourself, "Oh no, I forgot to schedule my doctor's appointment?"  With this new software, they make it as easy as one, two, or three clicks.  All you need to do is go to the portal homepage, make a couple of clicks, and your appointment request has been set up.

“Convenient method of communicating with our patients, allowing them to have additional options rather than just calling by phone," explained Miller.

The patient portal, stealing from the website's mission statement, is something the hospital calls "Your Champion for Better Health."  It will allow OMH patients a chance to pay and view bills, access some personal medical information, ask doctors questions, and as mentioned, request appointments and prescription refills.  And with the options, the system is also very safe, something the hospital made sure to secure.

“Nothing goes over the public e-mail, you have to log in to get your messages and so on," said Grosser.

Otsego Memorial Hospital Medical Group says they are one of a few heath systems in the state to have this type of technology available.

If you are interested in signing up for the OMH Medical Group Patient Portal, you’ll need to visit one of OMH’s physician offices and request instructions needed to access the site.

You’ll then be provided with a personal identification number and an instruction sheet of how to use the Portal.

Then you’ll log in to myOMH.org.
