TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The 2010 season of SwingShift and the stars came to a close on New Years Eve. It consisted of six dancers raising money for six local charities. While each participant was successful, one dancer went above and beyond for her charity.
Denise Busley, who danced for the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center, raised $77,448.33. Her amazing achievement was also a new record for SwingShift and the Stars.
“It's humanitarian at the highest level. We have to take care of our kids…we have to as a civilized society. We can not really call ourselves civilized unless we protect our kids,” Busley said.
The Children’s Advocacy Center could not be more grateful. In its first year of existence, the money raised will go a long way.
“Now we can add more staff, we can add a forensic interviewer and put away money so we can have a facility,” said Director Brooke Nettz.
While her dancing days are over, Busley said her commitment to the Advocacy Center will carryon. She calls it her new life calling.
“I won’t stop until this is on the minds and hearts of every single person in this area and in the conscious of everyone…that they know this center exists and they know the abuse of children has to be talked about. We have to stop it by telling the story,” Busley said.
As a group, the 2010 SwingShift season brought in more than $150,000.
