Robbery Suspect Admits to Hotel Crime

On January 4, 2011, at 5:25 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to the Super 8 Motel, 2323 South Mission, for an assault in progress. Prior the officers’ arrival, the suspect fled the business on foot. Officers began to track the suspect in the snow and followed his footprints to a residence about one mile from the motel. After further investigation, the suspect was taken into custody at 6:11 am. The investigation revealed that the suspect had arrived at the Super 8 about 4:30 a.m. and began to use the computer in the lobby. A short time later, the victim/employee began to prepare the continental breakfast. The suspect approached the employee and shoved her into the refrigerator. The suspect drew his arm back to strike her, the victim responded by pepper spraying him. The suspect fled the business. During the investigator’s interview of the suspect, he confessed that his intention was to rob the clerk. The suspect, Christopher William Campbell, a 19-year-old male from Mt. Morris, Michigan. Campbell is currently lodged at Isabella County Jail on the charges of: unarmed robbery, assault with intent to rob while unarmed, sex offenders-failure to comply with registration act, and assault or assault and battery with a bond of $100,000. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Isabella County Sheriff Department and Central Michigan University Police Department.
