EAST JORDAN, MI -- UPDATE: The story of little Bradley's birth is making national news!  He was featured on NBC's Today Show and the Weather Channel on Wednesday.

For those of us who have children, we know the birth of a baby is a truly magical experience.

For one family in Charlevoix County, the magic was felt in the passenger seat of their car during this weekend's blizzard.

It's stressful enough trying to drive in tough winter conditions, but imagine if your wife is in labor about to give birth!

That's what happened to Jessica and Greg Porter.

They put it to me this way:  When it's time, there's no turning back.

So, the side of the road had to do.

Meet two-day old Bradley Lewis Porter, an 8 pound, 10 ounce healthy baby boy.  Bradley has a better story than most of us will have in our entire lifetimes.

The story starts at the Porter's home around 1:30 Sunday morning.  Jessica Porter was just eight days away from her due date, but an early morning inclining had her thinking it might be time.  So, Jessica's husband Greg fired up his Mercury Montego.

"The weather conditions were absolutely horrible, couldn't see what side of the road I was on sometimes, creeping along at 45," said Greg Porter.

The Porters were on their way to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  But as they were on US-31 almost to Elk Rapids, Baby Bradley had other plans.

"I was like, you need to pull over now, hang up the phone, don't worry about where anybody is, he's coming, and somebody has to catch him," said Jessica Porter.

Greg pulled the car over and opened the passenger side door.  He said he remembers seeing the top of Bradley's head and thinking to himself, "oh boy."

"I don't know if instinct would be the right word," laughed Greg.

"I’m yelling pull, he's yelling push," laughed Jessica.

"I can tell you this, basically everything else stopped.  To me, there was no realization that it was cold, there was no realization that the conditions were as bad as they were," said Greg.

Bradley Lewis Porter was born just after two in the morning.  The delivery room -- the passenger seat his parents' Mercury Montego.  Elk Rapids first responders showed up soon after.

“They asked me if I wanted to cut the cord, I told them I've done enough, and I'd let them take over, because I was presently happy with what I did to that point," said Greg.

“It was truly an amazing experience, and I knew I couldn't be in better hands, who wants to take better care of us?" said Jessica.

On Bradley’s birth certificate, it says location of birth: US-31 and Quarterline Road.

Delivered by- father.

Greg and Jessica say you can't beat that, but they never want to do it again.
