Snow and Ice-covered roads can pose danger to Michigan drivers

GAYLORD, MI -- As the road crews continue cleaning up, Michigan State Police remind you to take it slow.

Michigan State Police Trooper Jamie Voss says with slippery conditions, give yourself three times as much distance from the car in front of you as normal.

He also says four-wheel drive and front-wheel drive vehicles aren't clear from losing control, and he advises drivers even though the speed limit is 70 miles an hour, ease up for your safety.

"Make sure you're not going to drive your vehicle beyond your own capabilities, know what you're able to do in your vehicle.  If you feel like your wheels are slipping, let off your acceleration, and don't continue giving it gas while driving," said Tpr. Voss.

He says if you do lose control, the worst thing to do is slam your breaks.

You can correct it by steering toward the direction you want to go without touching the gas or breaks.
