MANTON -- A woman is hospitalized with burns after an early morning fire destroyed her Wexford County home.

Fire crews were called to the home at 2710 U.S. 131 North in Manton around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire was fully engulfed when crews arrived.  Kelly Whitehead, the Fire Chief for Cedar Creek Township says there were four people inside the home at the time.  The woman who was hurt woke up and saw the flames in the living room.  She then woke up her husband and two adult sons.

Chief Whitehead says the men inside the home say the smoke detectors did not go off.  The fire is under investigation but 7 & 4 News is told it is not being called suspicious.

"It's a process investigating a fire like this," explained Nat McConnel, Fire Investigator with the Wexford County Sheriff's Office. "With the house being a total loss you have to start digging layer by layer.  The first thing I do is start interviewing the fire fighters who were first on scene and get a hold of the person who first called it in. These are great resources to give a reference point of where to start with the investigation and try to determine the origin of the fire."

"It could take days to weeks to interview and dig into all the sources of the fire especially with the extent of damage involved," said McConnel.

The woman who was hurt is being treated at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac.  The extent of her injuries are not known at this time. The Red Cross is helping the family with housing.
