TRAVERSE CITY -- It happened around four o'clock Wednesday morning.  The fire broke out on the 400-block of Sixth Street in Traverse City.

One man was sleeping in the basement at the time the fire started.  He was able to escape before the fire spread throughout the house.

Both the Traverse City Fire Department and Grand Traverse Metro were on the scene investigating.

A family just bought the home and had not moved all the way in yet.  7&4 News will continue to follow this developing story and bring you the latest details.
