EMMET CO. -- A major state road construction project that was scheduled to happen in 2012 will happen a year early.

Monday, the Emmet County Road Commission found out that a section of US-31 in the northern part of the county that drivers have been complaining about for quite a while will get its facelift next summer.

The $2.5 million project will reconstruct a three mile section of road that the road commission manager says is one of the worst stretches in the state.

"It was scheduled for 2012, I just met with a bunch of M-DOT people up at the Pellston Airport, and they said they were able to do some creative financing and they were able to find the money to get that project done next year," said Brian Gutowski of the Emmet County Road Commission.

He says a new road will save on the wear and tear of county trucks.

The project will be done on the section between the Carp River Bridge and I-75.

It'll take about two months to complete once work begins next year.
