MANISTEE -- Two teenagers are behind bars, accused of robbing a man, assaulting him, and then stealing his truck.

It happened just after midnight Thursday in Manistee.

While Manistee Police responded to the home for the robbery and assault, a Michigan State Police unit and Manistee County Sheriff unit began searching for the stolen truck.

Within minutes the truck was seen crossing U.S. 31 at Merkey Road.  Deputies tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a high speed chase until it blew a tire.

The 16-year-old driver was arrested and the other suspect ran into a corn field.  A K9 unit and helicopter were brought in to help in the search effort.  The 17-year-old suspect turned himself in to police several hours later.

Both teenagers will be in court Thursday for arraignment.

Police say the man who was assaulted had a prior relationship with the mother of the two teens and that this was not a random act of violence.
