The Greeting Card Quandary

When can I throw it away!?

It's not the first time this thought has entered my mind. Today was just the catalyst to finally getting the question answered. When I walked into work today there was a piece of mail sitting on my desk. I don't know about you, but to me an unexpected piece of mail is sort of like a little present -- just wrapped in white paper and decorated with a stamp. As I tore excitedly at the seam of the envelope I wondered what message I was about to receive.

Inside was a card. It was my grandmother thanking me for helping do landscaping in her yard. It was a sweet thank you ending with the traditional, "Love Grandma". So this should be the end of the story right? Oh no. Not so fast. Now a new challenge faced me. What do I do with the card? Do I place it in my desk to surprise me down the road? Do I stand it up in some place where visitors will see it and also recognize the good and gracious grandma helper that I am? Or do I just throw it away? Is that rude?

Well, after counting the clock for a considerable click and contemplating carefully... a concise conclusion came. I cast the complimentary card into the compost pile. What do you think? Right move?
