Cherry Festival: Searching for board members

TRAVERSE CITY -- If you are a Cherry Festival Fan, you may be able to put your love of red to good use planning next year's events!

National Cherry Festival officials are looking for volunteers to serve on its Board of Governors.

Responsibilities of the National Cherry Festival Board of Governors include the following: determining the mission and policies of the Festival; assist in planning; offer input and monitor Festival programming; protect assets and provide financial oversight; ensure legal and ethical integrity; enhance public standing; oversee the hiring of the Executive Director; support and evaluate the Executive Director.

Individual members are expected to attend 'Board' and 'Committee' meetings; be informed about the organization's mission, policies and programs; review agenda and supporting materials prior to meetings; serve on various committees or task forces; offer to take on special assignments; inform others within the community about the organization; follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies; and assist the 'Board' in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities to the National Cherry Festival.

Personal characteristics to consider when applying to serve on the Festival Board of Governors include the ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, and work well with people both individually and in a group function. Each applicant must possess honesty, integrity, and sensitivity, and be tolerant of differing points of view. Each applicant should be responsive, and have an interest in building community esprit des corps.
