CAMP GRAYLING, MI -- Imagine being a soldier deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan.
The last thing you want to worry about is obligations back home.
Tuesday, a group of Camp Grayling soldiers found out what special services they qualify for while they're away fighting for our country.
These troops got free legal advice on everything from making a will to getting out of a cell phone contract early.
"It's a huge relief, it takes away a lot of the stress, while you're over there, you worry about that, people getting taken care of while you're there, it's a huge stress relief," said Sergeant Jarred Dirheimer.
Sergeant Jarred Dirheimer is a member of the 119th Field Artillery Battalion based at Camp Grayling. He says the uncertainty of serving is there, but at least one thing's certain...if he dies overseas, things at home are taken care of. He's one of the soldiers who used free legal services provided by Cooley Law School.
Cooley Law School's Service to Soldiers program helps the men and women prepare their wills and power of attorney before they deploy. Attorneys and students volunteer their time for this free service.
"I was very excited to do this, I feel like the men and women of the Armed Services give a lot to our country, and I was glad to be able to take the opportunity to give back to them and help them out in some way," said Jackee Moss, a Cooley Law Student.
The law students are also here to tell the men and women what special provisions they're entitled to while deployed. For example, any credit cars they have, they can put them on a 6 percent hold, and also, they can get out of their apartment lease, their car lease, and new this year, they can get out of their cell phone agreement.
"I'm learning a lot of things, especially I'm getting married in five days, and there are a lot of things I need to pass on to my soon-to-be wife, and yeah, it's very beneficial," said Specialist John Rendak.
“Having it all here in one spot, so we can come here and do a round robin deal, takes care of everything in one shot," said Dirheimer.
For the men and women that have families and those that soon will, this gives them a chance to make sure one thing's certain--everything at home is in order.
