Two Chippewa County Beaches Banned

A no-body contact advisory is issued for two Chippewa County beaches after dangerous levels of bacteria are found.

The Chippewa County Health Department has issued the closure of Sherman Park Beach in Sault Ste. Marie after high levels of E. coli bacteria was found.  People should avoid body contact with surface waters at Sherman Park and the surrounding area.

High levels of bacteria was also found in the St. Mary's River Lake George Channel.  The health department has issued a no body contact advisory for areas along the north shore of Sugar Island within the Lake George Channel, specifically 55 N. Westshore Dr.  to 1175 N. Westshore Dr.. 

The Chippewa County Health Department will notify the public when the advisories are lifted.
