23rd annual celebration happened in Traverse City Sunday
TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- It's a celebration of life, laughter, and sharing.
Cancer survivors met in Traverse City Sunday for the 23rd Annual National Cancer Survivors' Day.
The weather tried to hinder the event, but it didn't work, because this group puts up a heck of a fight.
More than 300 cancer survivors, their family, and their friends met on the lawn of building 50 near the Munson Medical Center.
Organizers say this is a remarkable event to hold each year, and it runs parallel with Saturday's Relay for Life walk.
"You know, it's one of those things that you say, oh, it's a little rainy, I don't know if I'll come to that, but it's the whole purpose of coming here and saying hi to your friends and celebrating what this really means. I'm so happy we have so many wonderful people in this country and they appreciate and know there's love and support for all of them," said the Master of Ceremonies, Kathy Priest.
One survivor i spoke with said she goes to the event for the hugs.
The event was from 1pm until 3pm Sunday afternoon.
There was also family entertainment, musics, gifts, and door prizes.
