NEW YORK (AP) — The Dow Jones industrials has plunged below 10,000 as investors worrying about a global economic slowdown and tensions between North and South Korea turn away from stocks.
The Dow dropped more than 200 points in the first half hour of trading. It has fallen more than 10 percent from its recent high hit last month. With investors fleeing stocks, oil and the euro, U.S. Treasury prices are again surging. The yield on the 10-year note fell to its lowest level in more than a year.
European Union leaders are warning the continent could face a prolonged slump if countries don't make reforms to promote growth.
The Standard & Poor's 500 and the Nasdaq composite were also down more than 2 percent.
