Strawberry Social raises money for summer programs
An area non-profit group is ready to take action now, to help kids in need during the summer months.
Northern Michigan Helping Hands held it's annual Strawberry Social and silent auction on Sunday. It happened at the UAW Hall in Traverse City. Visitors get to enjoy strawberry shortcake and Moomers ice cream, but they also are supporting a good cause.
Helping Hands uses the proceeds to fund a summer speech therapy program, so kids can continue with their speech therapy even when they're not in school.
The Helping Hands group also helps those with disabilities. They loan medical equipment to those in need, and they offer scoliosis screening to sixth and seventh grade students every fall.
