Retirement Contest

KALAMAZOO -- First prize in a contest asking college students to draft a plan for their generation's comfortable retirement goes to a team from Western Michigan University.

Sam Demorest, Lauren Hearit, Ashley Horvat and Brad Kent split $20,000 and head to Washington Feb. 4 after winning the iOMe (eye-OH'-mee) Challenge. Team adviser Susan Hoffmann gets $1,000.

The students will meet with members of Congress during the Washington trip to discuss proposals for improving the nation's retirement security.

The iOMe Challenge was started by De Pere, Wis.-based Plan Administrators Inc. Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, was first runner-up, while St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., got honorable mention.
